Not Everyone Wandering is Lost

Not Everyone Wandering is Lost

I’m a wanderer. A nomad. And I like it like that.

I’ve often chosen the “hard road” in life. Choosing to struggle & find/make my way, instead of taking the easiest or simplest way to approach a situation. I find that I liked the challenge and thrill of figuring my way as I go, yet lately the anxiety that comes with that is too much for me.

In this life, we will all have to recover from something. It isn’t just about addiction, drugs, and mental health. The historical experiences of people from the African-Caribbean Diaspora, people who look like me, in this country & around the world are things we are still trying to recover from generations later. Yet, how can we fully heal and recover the life we deserve when no place here feels safe?

It finally dawned on me that I no longer can or want to live out of a survival mindset. I want to live and make decisions that will help me thrive in the long run and not just survive this moment. I refuse to keep subscribing to the “survive to die” lifestyle centered around poor coping choices that this society loves to glorify.

I need to be able to meet my most basic needs without struggling.

I need a lifestyle rich in culture and centered around [my] positive wellbeing.

I need to live, work, play, worship, love and be among my people, my Tribe.

I deserve to LIVE IN COMMUNITY [AGAIN].

So if that means I’ll continue to wander as I do my part to create this, then so be it. Right now, I’m somewhere between coping with the reality that is and creating a reality that fits my needs. This space is unknown and uncharted; I’m terrified. Struggling with self doubt. Yet, my will to see this through keeps me going. I will make it home.
